Sculptor Ram V. Sutar, now in his nineties hails from Dhulia District of Maharashtra State. He is a Gold medallist from J. J. School of Art, Bombay. Ram Sutar works with ease and mastery in bronze. He has mastery in realistic sculptures and has been recognized by various countries and Artist from all over the world. His Sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi has been installed in fifty different countries.

From 1954 to 1958 Shri Ram V. Sutar served in the Department of Archaeology as a modeller for restoration work of sculptures at Ellora and Ajanta Caves where he has restored many of the sculptures.

From 1958 to 1959 he joined Division of Audiovisual publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi as Technical Assistant (Model) in the Exhibition Division.

In 1959 he decided to work as freelance sculptor and made two sculptures for the main gate for Agriculture Fair.

Unassuming and soft spoken Ram takes delight in executing gigantic monumental works. His first triumph was the Chambal Symbolic monument at the Gandhi Sagar Dam. This 45 feet high beautiful sculpture chiseled out of a single block depicts the brotherhood of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Shri Jawaharlal Nehru the Prime Minister of India commended this work and wanted Ram Sutar to compete for a similar 50 feet high monumental work in bronze to be erected at Bhakra Dam in the memory of the workers who laid down their lives in fulfilment of this stupendous engineering marvel of modern India. His model on the theme of "Triumph of Labor" was adjudged as the best among the entries of famous Indian sculptors but due to paucity of funds this monument for the Bhakra Dam still remains to be erected and Ram's dream still remains unfulfilled.

The statue of Shri Govind Ballabh Pant overlooking Rafi Marg, New Delhi bears an ample testimony of Mr. Sutar's creative genius. The magnificent 10 feet. high bronze statue is proof enough of the artist's marvelous skill and flawless execution.

With the encouragement of Shri M. S. Randhawa, ICS, Vice Chancellor of Punjab University and an Art Connoisseur and Critic, Ram Sutar has completed two gigantic statues about 22 feet high of Goddess Ganga and Yamuna at Rose Garden ,Ludhiana and Mandi Gobindgarh in the state of Punjab. Words fail to describe these works which are only to be seen to be believed.

Mr. Ram Sutar has exhibited his works at a number of National and International fairs in India. His bust of Mahatma Gandhi has been highly appreciated and has been selected for installation in many foreign countries including France, Italy, Argentina, Barbados, Russia, England, Malaysia and Caracas on the occasion of Gandhi Centenary Celebrations.

Mr. Sutar has made more than ninety monumental sculptures in last sixty years. Many of the statues adorn the Parliament house, New Delhi including 16 feet high Mahatma Gandhi statue in meditation pose, 18 feet high statues of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Smt. Indira Gandhi, Maulana Azad, Sardar Patel, Late Jagjiwan Ram and Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant.

His sculptures are installed in different parts of India and all over the world including USA, Europe and Asian Countries.

Mr. Ram V. Sutar has been honoured with many National awards. In 1999 he was honoured with Padmashree for his contribution in the field of sculptures. His works have been appreciated in India and also all over the world. Artists from all over the world have visited his studio to see and learn the techniques of sculpting. Many have compared his works to the mastery of Rodin and Michelengelo.

Mr. Anil Ram Sutar son of Shri Ram V. Sutar is a born Sculptor and Painter. He has a Bachelor of Architecture from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, and Masters Degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, USA. M. Anil Sutar has designed several internationally acclaimed projects in USA, Middle East, Nigeria. A born sculptor with Knowledge of Architecture and Engineering, he has been able to amalgamate the three skills together to visualize and create large scaled projects.

Today Ram Sutar Fine Arts Private Limited is one of the biggest firms to create monumental sculptures. The Clay modelling studio is located at A-40-41, Sector 63, Electronic City, Noida. The studio is 12,000 Sq.ft in 2000 Sq. mt plot. The Biggest Foundry set up is located in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad with 1,00,000 Sq.ft shed in 8000 sq mt plot. The foundry has the capacity to do 10.000 kg casting per day.

In 1999 ‘Anandvan sculpture garden’ was created on Suraj Kund – Bhatkal lake road, where many sculptures are displayed in a very large landscaped area. It is open to the public to come and enjoy the sculpture garden.
